Practical LifeIn the Practical Life area children work with familiar objects: sweeping, polishing, dusting, pouring, preparing foods and many other worthwhile activities. These exercises are designed to help the child reach a stage of independence and confidence through meaningful activity with real life objects. They help and develop co-ordination, concentration, independence, hand dexterity, care of one's self and environment, patience, grace and courtesy.
Sensorial MaterialThe sensorial Material allows the child to understand his environment while learning through his senses. Each piece of material has one isolated quality such as colour, weight, size, shape, texture, sound, smell etc.The young child takes in impressions with true understanding. it gives purpose and structure to his/her learning. Montessori materials are didactic, they are designed to allow the child to see his/her mistakes and correct them, thus developing perseverance and positive self-image and attitude towards mistakes.
LanguageIn the montessori Children's House many activities are designed to feed naturally towards the development of skills for reading and writting. There is much indirect preparation for the language activities and games and for eventually being able to do "total reading".The child learns Phonetic sounds of the letters first, eventually being introduced to build short-phonetic words. The child gradually, at his/her own pace progress to reading short-phonetic words. Finally he/she is introduced to different parts of grammar.
MathThe child is introduced to Maths through the use of concrete materials. By working with the specially designed materials he/she learns the quantities and matching symbols. The child always works from the concrete to the abstract. By working with concrete materials the child can see and understand the operations of Addition, Multiplication, Subtraction and Division.
Algebra & GeometryA Solid foundation for these subjects is formed through working with concrete materials.
Apart from the above the school offers a series of extra mural activities which include Monkeynastix, Computer Training and Karate, to name a few. Transport is offered at a monthly fee and most important, the school can offer an after care facility to those parents who work full day.Zubeda also further conducts teacher, parent and child interviews and conference whereby the parents are informed of their child's progress and recommendations of further activities to assist the child will then be made to the parents at these meetings, when necessary. At the end of the year the parents also recieve detailed reports on the child, apart from the interviews being conducted.
